The object of the study is the predatory bug Perillus bioculatus (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae). The purpose of the work is to develop theoretical and scientific-methodological foundations for optimizing the structural parameters of an artificial population of the predatory bug Perillus bioculatus for its effective use in the conditions of Ukraine in biological plant protection systems. The optimal terms for collecting natural material were determined, phenotypic polymorphism was revealed, and the superiority of the white phenotype in terms of the main biological indicators was proven. Trophic relationships with the main prey, Leptinotarsa decemlineata, were studied, and the possibility of using the caterpillar Ephestia kuehniella as an alternative food was substantiated. The optimal cultivation parameters (temperature, humidity, lighting, photoperiod) for different stages of development have been established and the role of the substrate in reducing cannibalism has been shown. Methods for assessing the quality of laboratory culture have been developed and tested, in particular, determining viability, fecundity, fertility, migratory and search activity. The effectiveness of optimizing the phenotypic and ecological structure of an artificial population of P. bioculatus has been theoretically substantiated and experimentally confirmed.
