The most difficult is the assessment of environmental damage, since it includes a comprehensive analysis of reversible and irreversible changes in the geological environment and associated geospheres, the development of scientifically sound measures and an assessment of the costs of restoring the ecological and resource base of Ukraine. The main difficulty lies in the lack of a regulatory, legal, scientific base of indicators (chemical, isotopic, ecological and geochemical, biological, landscape, etc.) using which it would be possible to unequivocally state that pollution, landscape disturbance, destruction or damage to the ecological and resource base is associated precisely with the corresponding technogenic intervention (in this case, military actions) and a certain time period. Since these issues will be resolved in international courts, the availability of an evidentiary causal basis will play a decisive role, the development of which is the main goal of this work.
