However, Regulation No. 528/2012/EU on ensuring the availability on the market and use of biocidal products applies only to algaecides for water treatment that have disinfectant properties. The paper graphically presents an improved general classification of algaecides based on the taxonomy of their modern species. It has been found that in EU countries, the implementation of Regulation No. 528/2012/EU has been carried out taking into account local conditions (with additions regarding the transitional period and temporary permits, mutual recognition of permits of individual EU countries or a simplified procedure for obtaining permits of individual countries due to extraordinary needs and until the end of the review of EU active substances, additional rules for certain products and procedures, etc.). The non-compliance of Ukrainian legislation on biocidal products with European requirements has been proven. Measures have been proposed to minimize possible threats and risks to human health due to the use of algaecides for water treatment in the context of the implementation of European integration policy.
