The possibility and feasibility of using the obtained materials for purification of natural and wastewater of various origins will be considered. popup.description2 The project aims to develop highly efficient sorption composite materials for purifying surface water from heavy metals, including in the event of environmental emergencies. In the first stage of the project, a number of materials were obtained. According to the data of XRD, the conditions for obtaining Mg,Al-LDHs provide the required level of crystallinity and characteristic structural features of synthetic LDHs of the natural hydrotalcite type. EDX-mapping indicates the phase homogeneity of the samples and the absence of local clusters of individual oxide phases. To improve the sorption properties, a series of composites based on Mg,Al-LDHs with different biochar contents was obtained. Biochar was obtained from secondary agricultural waste. A comprehensive analysis of the synthesized nanocomposites enabled us to determine their physicochemical properties, including composition, structure, and morphology. The obtained data confirm the successful integration of biochar into the layered hydrotalcite matrix while fully preserving the stability of the crystalline phase. Such structural integrity creates a reliable basis for further functionalization of the material with complexing groups, which is a crucial factor for achieving high selectivity in the removal of heavy metal ions. Within the framework of the project, research will be continued according to the general plan: to optimize the process of impregnation of complexing reagents into the composition of composite materials; to characterize and identify the obtained composites using physicochemical methods; to investigate the sorption efficiency of the obtained materials to heavy metals; to investigate the conditions of desorption of metals from the solid phase of sorbents, as well as the possibilities of their reuse. As a result of the project, sorption materials will be developed that will be used in the field of water purification, in order to reduce the environmental load on water bodies in Ukraine.
