The subject of the study was genetic polymorphism and patterns of inheritance of valuable traits depending on the breeding methods used. The aim of the work was to substantiate and develop theoretical foundations and practical approaches for creating new source material suitable for modern cultivation technologies and adapted to the conditions of the Eastern Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. During the study, comprehensive genetic, morphophysiological, biometric, and bioinformatic investigations were carried out on a wide range of crops (wheat, naked oats, sunflower, amaranth, buckwheat, and chia). Significant variability in productivity and adaptive traits of the modern gene pool of common wheat and other wheat species was identified; breeding-valuable sources for use in hybridization were determined, as well as features of selecting transgressive genotypes with a complex of economically valuable traits. For sunflower, contrasting parental pairs were identified to obtain hybrids with an increased level of heterosis and resistance to broomrape. For amaranth, a bioinformatic search for candidate genes determining pollen sterility, drought tolerance, starch synthesis, and tocopherol biosynthesis was performed for the first time.
