Due to short-term operation, high performance parameters aren’t essential. Asynchronous motors with massive rotors, which has improved energy performance, complies with this requirements. Motors with massive rotors are manufactured using the stator of a general asynchronous machine by replacing the conventional squirrel-cage rotor with a massive rotor. The stator parameters are taken from the catalog or calculated as for a conventional squirrel-cage motor. The power of a motor with a massive rotor is 40–50% from traditional motor power, for long-term operation, a motor with double the power is required as the starting point. If the motor is designed for short-term operation, such a power reserve isn’t required. A relatively simple method for calculating the characteristics and operating parameters of a motor with a copper-plated solid rotor and optimizing the copper coating thickness was developed. An asynchronous motor with a copper-plated solid rotor was calculated using the proposed method. The stator was used from a 155 kW asynchronous motor. Thouse parameters were: number of pole pairs p = 2, active section length = 39 cm, pole pitch = 30 cm, r1 = 0.0102 ohms, x1 = 0.06 ohms. The rotor's copper coating thickness is 0.2 mm, its diameter is 38 cm, and the calculated parameters of the solid rotor are: r21= 0.082 ohms, x21= 0.05 ohms. The calculations yielded graphical results for M = f(S) dependency with a massive ferromagnetic copper-plated rotor and M = f(S) with a massive rotor without copper plating. The proposed method improves the accuracy of calculating the parameters and characteristics of asynchronous machines with double-layer rotors, reduces the amount of calculations by taking into account all existing physical phenomena and factors presents in double-layer rotors, and determines the optimal materials and thickness of the ferromagnetic sleeve.
