Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine" popup.description1 to study the features of the morphofunctional state of retinal vessels and choroid at different stages of diabetic retinopathy in patients who have undergone COVID-19 by laser photometry, eye thermometry, adaptive ophthalmoscopy, and optical coherence tomography popup.description2 For the first time, the density of the heat flow (HF) on the surface of the eyes in patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) was determined and its dependence on patient age established. For the first time, an influence of choroidal thickness (CT) on HF density at the ocular surface (unlike temperature) in patients with DR was established. There is a positive correlation between CT and HF density at the ocular surface . For the first time, a relationship between ocular HF density (as opposed to temperature) and the stage of the pathological process in patients with DR was demonstrated. Specifically, HF density and surface temperature in eyes with nonproliferative DR were, respectively. For the first time, the possibility of objective assessment of intraocular circulatory insufficiency by measuring HF density at the ocular surface was established — as a physiological biomarker reflecting choroidal hemodynamics, potentially useful for early detection of patients with proliferative DR with severe ocular tissue ischemia and high risk of neovascular glaucoma (area under curve 0.877 (95% CI, 0.827–0.916); threshold 6.8 mW/cm2; sensitivity 76.67% and specificity 85.51%). For the first time, the absence of an effect of panretinal laser photocoagulation on the ocular surface HF density in patients with PDR was shown (at 1 month follow-up), confirming the leading role of the choroid and, to a lesser extent, the retina in ocular heat transfer. For the first time it was shown that increased intraocular pressure (IOP) causes a decrease in heat emission from the ocular surface. Product Description popup.authors Taras B.
