PLANT EXTRACTS, PHYTOCHEMICAL COMPOSITION, ANTIVIRAL ACTION, SAFETY PROFILE, ANTIOXIDANT PROPERTIES The object of the study is methods for obtaining plant extracts, methods for determining the phytochemical composition of extracts, toxic, antioxidant, and antiviral properties of marigold extracts. The purpose of the work is to identify potential bioactive complexes with antiviral activity from natural sources. Research methods: virological, microscopic, colorimetric, biochemical, and statistical. Within the scope of this work, an analysis of the literature on the antiviral activity of known and potential compounds isolated from natural sources was carried out, namely, methods of their extraction, methods for determining their phytochemical composition and active substance, and evaluation of the mechanisms of antiviral action of biologically active substances. Marigolds are quite common plants in the world and have various pharmacological properties, but there has been insufficient research on the antiviral potential of their extracts. Using the method of extraction with 70% ethanol, extracts were obtained from the inflorescences and green mass of Ukrainian marigolds Tagetes patula L (respectively, EC and EZM) and their cytotoxic, antiviral, and antiradical activities were studied. It was shown that the biological activity of the extracts significantly depended on the part of the plant taken for extraction. Thus, the cytotoxic effect of EC was 4-15 times lower than that of EZM, while the antiradical activity was 5 times higher. It was found that ES exhibits high antiviral activity against human adenovirus and herpes simplex virus, with a reduction in viral infectious titers ranging from 1.9 to 4.9 log10 TCID50/ml. Thus, for the first time, the high antioxidant and antiviral potential of the extract from marigold inflorescences of Ukrainian origin against simple and complex DNA-containing viruses has been de Product Description popup.authors Krystyna S.
