Head Dmytro A. Havriushenko, Доктор фізико-математичних наук Registration Date 12-02-2026 Organization Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv popup.description1 The research objective is to identify the characteristics of the diffusion spread of radioactive substances in liquid systems, which form the basis for estimating the diffusive fluxes in predicting the long-term consequences of nuclear weapons use and addressing the tasks of of civil protection for the population in the event of radiation threats. popup.description2 The relevance of the stated objectives arises from current challenges in radiation safety and civil protection aimed at minimizing the consequences of emergencies associated with the spread of radioactive materials entering ecosystems as a result of the use of modern nuclear weapons or technogenic accidents caused by military actions. Literature analysis shows that existing approaches for assessing the magnitude of diffusion flows of radioactive substances (diffusive transport during leaching of radioactive materials, diffusion processes in soil, etc.) have a number of shortcomings related to insufficient understanding of the influence of irradiation from the diffusing substance on the equilibrium and kinetic properties of liquid systems where diffusion occurs. Development of reliable methods to estimate diffusion flows and predict contamination spread requires a physically substantiated model of diffusion in liquid systems of various configurations under radiation exposure. Current methods are mainly based on empirical data without proper consideration of physical mechanisms responsible for changes in the diffusion coefficient and its dependence on local parameters. Study of diffusion features of radioactive substances and determination of key parameters defining the nature and magnitude of diffusion flows is an urgent task for advancement of radiation safety technologies. The aim of the project is to determine characteristics of diffusive propagation of radioactive substances in liquid systems as a basis for estimating diffusion flows when forecasting long-term consequences of nuclear weapon use and solving civil protection tasks. The core idea is to apply fundamental principles of nonequilibrium statistical thermodynamics and liquid-state physics to develop models enabling prediction of negative consequences of radioactive contamination of ecosystems, identification of effective remediation methods, and minimization of radiation risk to the population Product Description popup.authors Tetiana S.
