Head Berehova Tetiana V., Доктор біологічних наук Registration Date 13-02-2026 Organization Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv popup.description1 The project aims to develop the concept of the creation of innovative wound- healing agents (composites) based on protein molecules (proteolytic enzymes, collagen, peptides), to investigate mechanisms and evaluate the effectiveness of wound-healing agents on various wound models. popup.description2 Modern approaches to the treatment of skin wounds predominantly rely on agents with a narrowly targeted mechanism of action, such as antiseptic, dehydrating, or necrolytic effects. However, the multifactorial nature of wound pathogenesis and the pronounced stage-dependent course of healing indicate the need to introduce therapeutics capable of providing a comprehensive therapeutic effect into clinical practice. The main idea of this project is to develop a concept for creating multifunctional wound-healing agents containing protein molecules with diverse biological activities as active components. Proteolytic enzyme fractions, collagen, peptide mixtures derived from various sources, as well as blood plasma proteins, will serve as the basis for these compositions. The aim of the project is to develop a concept for innovative protein-based wound-healing composites (proteolytic enzymes, collagen, peptides), to investigate their mechanisms of action, and to evaluate their effectiveness in wound models of different origins. Project objectives include: • optimizing methodologies for obtaining proteolytic enzymes, collagen, and bioactive peptides from fishery and leather industry waste and from non-commercial aquatic organisms, and characterizing their physicochemical properties relevant to biotechnological products with wound-healing and anti-burn activity; • developing wound-healing composites with optimal formulations and combinations of active components suitable for application to wounds of various types; • testing the effectiveness of the obtained composites in planar incisional, purulent-necrotic, and burn wound models and elucidating the molecular and biochemical mechanisms of healing; • based on the results, formulating a general concept for protein-based composites demonstrating the most pronounced wound-healing and anti-burn effects.
