The subject of the study is the genesis of the legal regulation of climate security. It is argued that the national legal framework does not define the concept of “climate security” and that the term is not distinguished from “environmental security.” It is clarified that in the European Union, “climate security” has long been a distinct branch of climate legislation. Emphasis is placed on the need to align Ukrainian climate legislation with European Union law. It is noted that particular attention should be given to combating anthropogenic methane emissions, especially in the agricultural sector, which currently lack clear legal regulation. It is argued that the Law of Ukraine “On energy efficiency” is primarily aimed at reducing energy consumption and does not contain specific requirements for preventing climate change. A legal gap in the regulation of methane (CH₄) and nitrous oxide (N₂O) emissions in agriculture is identified, and ways to eliminate it are proposed based on foreign experience in legal regulation.
