Purpose of the study – investigation of archaeological artefacts and cultural layers using biological research methods. Research methods – experimental methods, mathematical and statistical analysis, and data interpretation. For the first time in Ukraine, an integrated biological approach was applied to the study of soils, wood, and amber from archaeological sites using FTIR spectroscopy combined with different methods of mathematical spectral processing, confirmed by elemental analysis. The skulls of the population of Chernihiv-Sivershchyna of the 17th–19th centuries were comprehensively examined within modern biological, morphological, and anthropological research. Ethnic cranioscopy was applied to identify anthropological connections of the population. New anthropological materials from regional burials were introduced into scientific circulation. The main directions of anthropological links were identified, and intra-group analysis of male and female skulls was conducted. The formation of the anthropological composition of the population during the Early Modern and Modern periods was clarified. New statistical standards were applied, including multidimensional canonical, integral, and cluster analysis. The database of individual skull measurements was expanded from 12 to 191 specimens.
