The increase in Hotair expression was accompanied by selective induction of Tnf-α mRNA in the amygdala and a strong positive correlation between the levels of Hotair and Tnf-α in both studied brain structures. The obtained data indicate the activation of a specific Hotair–Tnf-α axis in the pathogenesis of PTSD. In the offspring of the first generation of mice exposed to SPS (single prolonged stress), changes in motor activity, exploratory behavior, fear responses and a hyperactive behavioral profile in the elevated plus maze were detected, which indicates a possible vertical transmission of stress-induced neurobiological changes.
