Head Nezbrytska Inna М., Кандидат біологічних наук Registration Date 11-03-2026 Organization Institute of Hydrobiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description1 The purpose of the scientific research is to determine the ecosystem services provided by the Dnipro reservoirs, according to the state of biotic and abiotic components, in order to assess the damage and losses caused by military actions and as a basis for the formation of international claims for compensation for damages caused during armed aggression. popup.description2 As part of the research, 21 ecosystem services of the Dnipro cascade reservoirs were identified and classified into three categories: provisioning, regulating and supporting, and cultural. An assessment was made of the nature of the loss of ecosystem services of these reservoirs in connection with the Russian Federation's military aggression against Ukraine. Using the example of the Kyiv and Kaniv reservoirs, it was established that the level of provision of the regulating service “Water purification” varies from medium to high, which indicates the preservation of the potential of natural mechanisms for purifying the aquatic environment and transforming pollutants. An assessment of the “species habitat maintenance” service, based on field observations, showed a balanced state of functioning of biocenoses within most of the studied areas of the reservoirs. Analysis of the “Commercial fishing” service showed a significant reduction in industrial fish catches due to military actions, which led to direct economic losses due to lost profits. During the project, methodological approaches were developed to assess the loss of ecosystem services, taking into account both quantitative and qualitative indicators. This approach provides a more comprehensive and objective assessment of ecosystem services and increases the soundness of management decisions.
