Head Sukhatskyi Yurii V., Кандидат технічних наук Registration Date 19-03-2026 Organization Lviv Polytechnic National University popup.description1 The project is aimed at developing the scientific and technological bases for advanced processes of sono-catalytic oxidation of dyes with heteroatoms (N/P/S), as organic pollutants of aquatic environments, using graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) doped with Oxygen, Sulfur or Phosphorus, g-C3N4 modified with polar hydroxyl groups, or nanocomposites “spinel/g-C3N4”, “transition metal sulfide nanodots/g-C3N4” as catalysts for the decomposition of peroxyreagents (peroxymonosulfates/peracetic acid/sodium percarbonate/periodates). popup.description2 Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) was synthesized by thermal polymerization of C, N-containing precursors – melamine, urea and thiourea. The structural and phase properties of the synthesized g-C3N4 samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The surface morphology of g-C3N4 was studied by scanning electron microscopy. The g-C3N4 sample (with an average crystallite diameter of 8 nm) obtained by thermal polymerization of melamine for 2 h at a temperature of 550 °C, was used as a catalyst for photocatalytic (under the action of visible light with a wavelength in the range of 590...750 nm or under the action of ultraviolet radiation with a wavelength of 253.7 nm) and sonocatalytic (ultrasound frequency – 22 kHz; specific power of ultrasonic cavitation treatment of the reaction medium – 68 W/L) degradation of the diazo dye Direct Yellow 4 in the presence of peroxyreagents in the reaction system (potassium peroxymonosulfate in the form of Oxone/peracetic acid/sodium percarbonate/potassium periodate) as additional “sources of reactive oxygen species”. It was found that the maximum efficiency (estimated by the degree of degradation) and intensity (estimated by the degradation rate constant calculated based on the results of kinetic studies) of both photocatalytic and sonocatalytic degradation of the Direct Yellow 4 dye were achieved when potassium peroxymonosulfate in the form of Oxone was used as the primary oxidizing agent. The advanced photocatalytic oxidation process “visible light/g-C3N4/Oxone” was successfully tested for the degradation of anionic (congo red) and cationic (rhodamine B, methylene blue) dyes. Technological schemes for the photocatalytic and sonocatalytic oxidative degradation of dyes with heteroatoms (N/P/S) as organic pollutants of aquatic environments were developed. Recommendations for their hardware design have been formulated.
