It is shown that natural polymers (pectins, Na-CMC, chitosan) can effectively stabilize silver nanoparticles, forming uniform nanostructures with high antimicrobial and antiviral activity. Such materials successfully inhibit the growth of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, fungi of the genus Candida, and also reduce the titer of influenza and herpes viruses without exhibiting cytotoxic effects on cell lines. PVA-PEG hydrogels crosslinked by electron irradiation and filled with TiO₂ nanoparticles have a modified structure and lower mechanical strength with increasing titanium oxide concentration. However, despite the potential photocatalytic activity of TiO₂, the composites obtained did not exhibit bactericidal properties against the test cultures S. aureus and E. coli, which emphasizes the need for additional functionalization or activation of such materials. Collectively, these studies demonstrate that polymer-based nanocomposites are a promising platform for the development of advanced antimicrobial and antiviral materials. Their effectiveness depends strongly on the type and concentration of nanoparticles, synthesis conditions, and polymer matrix characteristics.
