Registration Date 25-03-2026 Organization National Technical University of Ukraine «Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute» popup.description1 The goal of the project: the development of novel selective indicator systems (liquid and solid) for the determination of pollutants defined by seawater quality descriptors; monitoring of the state of the marine environment of Ukraine using novel indicator systems; development of innovative and effective measures for the remediation of the Black and Azov Seas. popup.description2 A comprehensive set of activities was carried out to develop and improve solid phase indicator systems for rapid detection of priority pollutants in seawater. An approach was developed for controlled modification of membranes and solid carriers using chromogenic reagents for increasing the sensitivity and selectivity of indication. Indicator systems based on ceramic and polymer membranes, filter paper, and oxide powders (Al2O3, ZnO, TiO2, SiO2) were synthesized and tested. For powder indicators, 11 ZnO samples were obtained using different synthesis methods, 7 Al2O3 samples were prepared by hydrothermal synthesis, and 2 ZnO-TiO2 composite samples as well as TiO2 were produced. Conditions were selected to provide a light background and to reduce the risk of organic dye degradation under light exposure. 23 ceramic membrane samples, mainly kaolin based, were fabricated. Rational formulations of pore formers and technological procedures for mixing, pressing, heating were determined to obtain strong, light coloured and porous matrices. Comprehensive materials characterization was performed using IR spectroscopy, XRD, SEM. It was established which modifications are appropriate and which do not produce the expected effect. A new method for indirect phosphate ion indication was proposed based on disruption of the “metal metallochromic indicator” complex. The best performance was demonstrated by the chromazurol S complex with the zirconyl ion, which provides a clear colour change across different phosphate concentrations. For visual interpretation of the results, colour scales were prepared with fixed photography conditions and RGB based colour encoding. Validation was carried out using model/real seawater samples, and components that may affect indication accuracy were additionally assessed, including salinity composition and oxidizability. The results were supported by publications, participation in scientific events, submission of 2 applications for Ukrainian patents. Product Description popup.authors Tereshkov Mykhail V. Viktor S.
