A methodology for optimizing the synthesis and heat treatment of materials based on phase-diagram analysis of multicomponent systems has been developed. The technologies for synthesizing high-quality thermoelectric compounds based on tellurides, antimonides, and chalcogenides have been improved. The kinetics of crystal formation, phonon heat transport in nanostructures, and methods for controlled reduction of lattice thermal conductivity have been investigated. Computer models of the crystallization process have been created, and physical models as well as high-precision techniques for measuring thermoelectric parameters have been developed, together with automated measuring equipment. Approaches to the numerical modeling of thermal processes and design solutions for thermoelectric generators, coolers, and heat pumps with various heat-exchange systems have been proposed. A reliability theory and a probabilistic degradation model for thermoelectric modules have been developed, enabling prediction of device lifetime based on the results of accelerated tests. Prototype samples of highly efficient equipment, including devices for medical applications, as well as educational and demonstration instruments, have been created. The obtained results form a scientific and technological basis for the development of efficient thermoelectric generators, coolers, sensors, and measurement systems.
