To recycle the spent Pd-containing catalyst, the coal mass was burned in a metal container covered with a lid (ethanol was used for ignition) until a non-combustible residue was obtained. The residue after combustion was boiled in a mixture (1/1) of concentrated hydrochloric acid and 30% hydrogen peroxide, cooled, filtered on a Schott filter. The resulting solution was evaporated on a vacuum rotary evaporator until the salt crystallization began. The mixture was removed from the rotor and left for crystallization. The precipitate that fell out was filtered off and dried on a filter, washed with hexane. The study of the catalytic activity of a representative sample of experimental batches of catalysts containing palladium nanoparticles in the debenzylation reaction of substituted piperazines, in particular N-benzylpiperazine, was carried out in a hydrogen atmosphere under conditions of elevated pressure and temperature. Aliquots of the reaction mixtures were analyzed using gas chromatography and mass spectrometry control. Testing of catalytic activity showed that each of the samples of the catalyst for the debenzylation of substituted piperidines provides a yield of the target product of at least 98%.
