Vysotsky popup.description1 Assessment of the status of large predatory mammal populations in Ukraine and development of measures to mitigate their negative impact on hunting productivity popup.description2 Materials were collected on selected indicators of populations of large carnivorous mammals, particularly during the period of martial law, with analysis conducted at the level of administrative regions. The impact of ecosystem changes on population status and wolf abundance was examined, including environmental transformations resulting from the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident and the prohibition of hunting within large protected areas of the nature reserve fund. The status of populations of the wolf, fox, and jackal was assessed, including changes in their abundance, the deterioration of the sanitary and epidemiological situation, losses caused by carnivores, and potential risks to humans. The main factors contributing to these processes were also analysed. Field surveys of selected species of game and rare carnivorous mammals and their habitats were initiated in the Polissia and Forest-Steppe forest-hunting regions.
