Aim of the study: clarification of the existing composition of pest complexes, their biological characteristics, seasonal development, distribution and harmfulness to forest tree species in the context of climate change. Methodology of the study: methods of comparative ecology, entomology, mycology, silviculture and forestry, statistical analysis, as well as original methods of accounting and predicting the distribution and harmfulness of organisms, developed by the authors. The specific patterns of the seasonal development of two highly destructive invasive pests – the emerald ash borer (Agrilus planipennis) and the acorn moth (Blastobasis glandulella) – were identified, and the limits of their distribution were clarified. The feasibility of regular introduction of the parasitoid Th. formicarius into bark beetle foci to suppress the development of a new outbreak was demonstrated. The susceptibility of different ash species to colonization by the emerald ash borer was evaluated.
