Purpose -investigation of correlation between changess of lipid peroxidation intensity , respiration and high amplitude swelling of rat liver mitochondria during natural aging and life-span prolongation by means of calorie -restricted diet. Calorie-restricted diet was established to result in increase of antioxidant system reliability and decrease of lipid peroxidation intensity. Activity of outer rotenone -insensitive redox chain of mitochondria was increased and activity of redox chain of inner mitochondrial membrane was considerably decreased under the calorie- restricted diet. The rate of Ca (2+) -dependent high amplitude swelling of rat liver mitochondria was increased during natural aging but it was essentially decreased under prolongation of animal life-span by means of calorie-restricted diet.Supposed that structure -functional state of mitochondria, antioxidant system activity and lipid peroxidation intensity may be one of the criteria for search of geroprotectors.
