A prospective randomized study comparing results of intra-arterial chemotherapy with results of exploration only in previously unresectable locally advanced gastric cancer patients had been undertaken. Superselective intra-arterial chemotherapy leaded to downstaging of surgically proven unresectable advanced tumors allowing subsequent resection and long-term survival.
