Impossibility of getting close rope winding on the barrel by way of barrel shape modification is proved. The new criterion (curvature criterion) for minimal winding step setting is proposed. The mathemati-cal model of rope winding on the hoist barrel on the assumption that rope axis is plane curve is improved. On the base of this mathematical model the computer program is worked out which allows groove shape, barrel and rope radius, angle of deviation modification and winding step calculation reasoning from new and existed criteria.
