Archive reports with 19 oceanographic expeditions to the Indian Ocean and 19 expeditions to the Atlantic Ocean carried out by Ukraine (IBSS and MHI), long-term coastal studies carried out by Panama (STRI) and Kenya (KMFRI) were processed. The database developed, has incorporated CTD casts, nutrients, primary production, chlorophyll "a", micro-, meso- and macroplanktonic fractions. The collected plankton samples were digitised to the level of genus and species level. This provided the opportunity to analyse data on species diversity in relation to environmental changes. It also enabled the biological data to be linked with the system of currents from appropriate regions. Programme's outputs: a) Selection and rescue of unique archive data, which may be lost. b) Construction and release of data inventory and database on CD-ROM. c) Training for scientists from participating countries. d) Dissemination of rescued data on CD-ROMs and through the WWW. e) Joint scientific papers and conference presentations with the analysis of biodiversity and biovariability patterns evaluated from the created data bank.
