Study objective: thyroid pathology prevalence evaluation in children and adolescents from Skvira region exposed to combined impact of ionizing radiation and environmental iodine deficiency both with that of environmental iodine deficiency and other factors. Selection of 300 children suffering diffuse goitre. Study methods: clinical examination, thyroid ultrasound imaging, daily iodine excretion assay. Study results. Examination of kids and adolescents 16 years after the Chernobyl disaster revealed the high value of thyroid pathology incidence. Thyroid pathology was revealed in 584 persons from those 4,028 involved in the study (14.5%). Diffuse goitre of 1st - 2nd degree possesses the leading position in thyroid pathology structure. Three settlements in Skvira region are located within zone of intensive radiation control (zone IV) resided by 412 kids and adolescents. High incidence of thyroid pathology (62.8%) was revealed among 315 of them been exposed to low radiation doses on the environmental iodine deficiency background. Metabolic iodine deficiency was revealed in 84.2% of children and adolescents from Skvira region, at that urine iodine concentration was under 20 ?g/L in 20% of them. The 380 children with goitre of 1st - 2nd degree were selected from those 584 ones with established diagnosis aiming thyroid pathology prevention programs elaboration through the detailed clinical examination according to unified protocol with further iodine deficiency correction.
