Purpose of the study: to reveal the regulations of interaction of photon radiation and polydisperse systems for determining new approaches to creation of radioprotective and x-ray contrast substances. Methods: sedimentation, dosimetry, radiographic, electron microscopy. Results and their novelty: Optimal conditions for producing more stable water suspensions of barium sulfate with Algigel were determined. X-ray study of the gastrointestinal tract demonstrated acceleration of the contrast substance evacuation when Algigel was added to BaSO4. This mixture does not cause marked changes in the cell microstructure in the intestinal mucosa which is characteristic for pure barium sulfate. Area of application: Medicine, radiology.
