Head Buzunov V.A., Доктор медичних наук Registration Date 05-03-2003 Organization Research Centre for Radiation Medicine popup.description2 Aim - epidemiological characteristics of negative radiation and nonradiation factors affecting risk formation of most common chronic nontumor diseases among recovery operation workers and adult evacuees. Object - nontumor incidence in recovery operation workers and evacuees for 1988-2001 with respect to risk factors (as documented in 1992-2001 by the Ukrainian State Chernobyl Register and by clinical and epidemiological register). Research methods: epidemiological, statistical, risk-analysis. Results - From the data of the State Register of Ukraine, a rise in 1988-1999 nontumor incidence was revealed for the cohort of recovery operation workers (1986-1987) which was followed by a moderate estimates decline for the period of 2000-2001. During 1988-2001, rate of circulatory diseases was stably high. Definite dependence of nontumor incidence on age and whole body dose of external radiation was determined. On the data of the State Register of Ukraine, an upward nontumor incidence trend in cohorts of the evacuees who were 15-17, 18-30, 31-40 and 41-50 years old (at the moment of the accident) was recorded; the trend under consideration was not age-dependent. For each age interval, the year of reliable increase in some disease classes and nosologic forms making the greatest contribution to these classes formation was defined. The development of nontumor risks was found to depend on thyroid dose. On the data of clinical and epidemiological register, the statistically significant association was observed between nontumor incidence and radiation and nonradiation factors (age, heredity, adverse labor conditions, behavioral risk factors).
