The subject of research is to determine the requirements made to anvil work is ensured (wear resistance, minimum dispersion energy of impact pulse). The material of anvils was investigated by metallographic and mechanical methods. Real conditions of anvils' exploitation were reproduced on the testing installation. The characteristics of structure and properties of anvil material depending on the number of impact loading were determined. The results can be used in machine building for choosing the material of machine and equipment parts destined for perception and transmission of impact pulse loading.
