The following methods of research were used: the comparative and typological analysis of artefacts; that of the theory of probability; construction and morphological and interdisciplinary approaches. The results obtained are as follows: a) a report of the 2003 archeological expedition on the excavations of a large Khazar settlement of VIII-X c. on the Severskiy Donets river; b) the manuscript of Volume 4 (Khazar period) prepared for publication within the framework of the international archeological series “The European Steppes in the Middle Ages”.
