Goal of research: finding the main social determinants of the unequal access, motivations of receiving higher education in contemporary Ukraine, as well as general trends and peculiarities of the impact the system of higher education makes on socio-cultural changes in postcommunist societies. Methods of research: survey; individual interviews, including expert and focus group interviews; analysis of documents, etc. The conceptual foundations of the sociological studies on the problem of higher education as a factor of socio-structural changes are presented; the research program and instruments are worked out; the pilotage research among the students of Ukrainian higher educational establishments is conducted; the analysis of the resultsof the pilotage research is made; the bibliography on the research topic is gathered. The results demonstrated in the report may be used at the learning process, as well as in the scientific researches on the problems of higher education in the conditions of postcommunist transformations.
