Obtaining of new data on regularities of wear of steels and alloys at different velocities of sliding against abrasive surface is the goal of work. The outcome in 2005 appears to be the developed method of investigations. ГОСТ 17367-71 (wear of metallic materials against constrained abrasive) is taken as the base method for performing the tests. 0.001 mm/s is taken as lower bound of speed range assuming that there is no principle changes in wear rate of carbon alloys below this threshold. Created is the scheme of laboratory machine allowing testing samples at velocities of sliding against abrasive 0.001 mm/s and above. The method to determine extremal sliding velocity (starting mode) is developed also. This allow to carry out the tests of samples in those same conditions which are most destructive at the beginning of relative motion of friction surface and abrasive medium.
