Methods of researches - chemical, physicomechanical, petrographic. Researches on influence determination of fused spinel with various ratio of Al2O3/MgO (75/25, 80/20, 85/15) on properties of corundum spinel samples are carried out.The new construction of purging plug with silicon carbide indicator, providing safety visual control of wear coefficient of a plug in the operating period in the steel ladle is developed. The application for the suggested invention is given.Purging plugs of new construction with the use of mix of optimal composition are produced and tested in 300-ton steel ladles. For metallurgical plants of Ukraine purging plugs for application in ladles of volume 90, 120 and 300 tons are produced and delivered, they provide the blowing time more than 2500 l/min.The control on blowing of plugs and consumption of compressed air at pressure of 1, 2 and 3 atm is carried out.
