The purpose of work is investigation of methods for shaping the high-order modes in the laser resonators containing waveguide and open parts. The structure of the high-order transverse modes of waveguide resonators in far field is studied analytically in this work. The method of the space Fourier-filtration for selective excitation of single high-order mode with a high degree of discrimination of undesirable modes is proposed and realized. Numerical study of characteristics of some the lowest on losses of transverse modes of the dielectric and metal resonators of the submillimeter laser from the geometrical sizes of mirrors and parameters of the amplitude-stepped filter in the form of the absorptive grooves which allocated in region of the field nulls for selected modes is carried out. Configurations of amplitude-stepped mirrors for shaping of single transverse modes of the higher orders in resonators on the basis of the dielectric and metal waveguides are proposed. Weak influence of the active medium on the spatial characteristics of selected mode is shown. The results of investigations can be used at designing and making waveguide lasers with the defined output profile of intensity, and also wide-range single-mode lasers of a submillimeter wavelength.
