The aim of work was to optimize the methods of diagnosis, prophylaxis and treatment of ventilator-associated pneumonia in patients with polytrauma and after thoracic surgical interventions. Factors contributing to ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) progression and VAP influence on the degree of acute, pulmonary insufficiency have been indentified. Results allow using the most optimal parameters of artifical lung, ventilation in VAP. Identifsng VAP agerits enables administering early and effective empiric antibacterial VAP therapy as well as defining effective prophylactic methods of this from of pneumonias.
