The purpose is to explore specific features of historical and socio-cultural development of Ukrainian-Russian Frontier, to elaborate and to substantiate the methodic of empirical resaerch of its population's axeological orientations, to research the regional identity and its representations in the case of modern Kharkiv student community, to analyse the previous results. The methods are: system-structural and intercultural analysis of the frontier cultute phenomena and socio-cultural and economic indicators of the society's life on the Ukrainian-Russian frontier; historical-tipological, comparative, historical-chronological and semiotical methods. The exploration of our contemporary's identity (on the materials of the formal questioning of the Kharkiv first-year students) was made with the use of quantitative (method of one-dimention distribution analysis and method of interrelations tables) and qualitative methods as well. The results of research-investigative work are: the preparation of the 6 papers (printed are 2 - on the problems of national-cultural identity on the Ukrainian-Russian Frontier), also is prepared the special issue of scientific jornal "East-West" (№№ 9-10) - "Regional Capitals of Ukraine". Also 3 research seminars concerned with the Frontier culture phenomena were held. Now the process of the creating of the informational data bases about the history and the present of the Slobozhanshchyna region is going on; the directions are history, identity, ethno-social structure of the population, international interrelations, economic indicators of the life of the society on the Ukrainian-Russian Frontier. During the work ower the project new materials in archives and libraries were found, web-site (http.//siu@univer.kharkov.ua) was hugely enlarged, the questionnaire for the indicationing of the axeological orientations of the population was created and tested, the formal questioning of the Kharkiv first-year students (the number is 1278) was made, the first conclusions about the specific features of the national-cultural identity of the population on the Frontier were made.
