Experimental crystals growth was carried out and the conditions of strontium thetraborate crystals growth by Chohralsky method were optimized. The SrB4O7 single crystals of high optical quality were grown with sizes not less than 20 mm in a diameter and 20 mm long. The samples with specified orientation were made for acoustooptical investigations. Ultrasound properties of SrB4O7 crystals were investigated – speeds of longitudinal and transversal ultrasonic waves in these crystals were measured and on their base the photoelastic coefficients of strontium thetraborate crystals were calculated.
