Aim - to study changes in physiological, morphological, molecular biological and biochemical parameters, emerging in normal according to WHO criteria human sperm under X and gamma-irradiation. Methods - radiobiological, biochemical, spectrophotometric, microscopic, flow cytometric and statistical ones. A cryopreserving medium and protocol for long-term cryoconservation of human sperm at low temperatures without significant loss of its physiological and biochemical properties has been developed. The increase of total motility and linear mobility of human sperm was shown to be incident to low dose irradiation that was accompanied by corresponding stimulation of ion-transport ATPase activities in combination with the surge of resistance to high concentrations of salts and acids for irradiated spermatozoa. In the diapason 50-150 Gy the radiation accelerated the occurrence of hyperactivation state in spermatozoa due to inadequate changes of ion-ATPase activities and the abatement of antioxidant protection. In addition, the enhancement of apoptosis, depression of electron transport in mitochondria, accumulation of single and double chain DNA breaks in human spermatozoa irradiated in the dose range 200-500 Gy have been elucidated.
