Belt biocenosis of mussel and phaseolin silt on the south-western Crimean shelf has been destroyed substantially and now are not suitable enough for fattening and wintering of demersal fish. Catches of sprat, whiting, mullus, flounder and crambe have been decreased dramatically. Sturgeon populations near the Crimean coast are in extremely depressed condition. Mass mortality in benthic fish is connected with eutrophication and pollution of the coastal areas. Potential resources for aquaculture near the Crimean coast have been evaluated.
