Measurement of power quality indices and investigation of transients in traction network for different operational modes were executed. It was de-termined that the level of voltage unbalance, harmonic distortion and flicker exceeds permissible values according to Standard 13109-97 due to presence of single-phase highly-varied loads. From carried out investigations it was concluded that the break-down of insulation of equipment installed on substation is caused by high-frequency voltage components appearing from resonances at commutations and change of load current. Device Fluke 435 was used for measurement of power quality indices, and de-vice Fluke 435 and digital oscilloscope Agilent DSO3062A were used for transients re-cording.
