The purpose of the work is to develop scientifically based activities for reduction of cancer mortality rates of urban population of Ukraine. The methods of the study are medical informatics, descriptive epidemiology, system and component analysis. There were studied: dynamic models of the lesion and sex and age peculiarities of cancer incidence and cancer mortality of the urban population of Ukraine in 1969-2007; changes of the demographic structure of the urban population of Ukraine in 1998-2008; the quality of the data on cancer cases of the inhabitants of the greatest cities of Ukraine registered, and the main ways of its improvement have been determined. During the study of cancer incidence rates of urban population of Ukraine it was discovered that during the period since 1969 to 2007 the level of male incidence has been increased from 183,4 to 366,5 per 100000 of population, or 2 times; and in female population - from 198,4 to 347,2 per 100000 of population, or 1,8 times. During the same time rates of cancer mortality of male urban population increased on 52,2 %, and of the female population - on 24,0 %. The highest growth rates of cancer incidence were revealed for colon, kidney and skin melanoma both for men and women, for prostate gland - for men, and uterine corpus and thyroid gland - for women. The first places in cancer incidence structure of urban male population occupy lung, stomach and skin, in females - breast, skin and corpus uteri. The program of checking data quality in the system of National cancer registry using modern information technology have been designed and approved that has allowed to perfect the quality to information, entering into cancer registries.
