Aim - to determine the radioactive and chemical contaminants in breast milk from women-mothers inhabiting a Rivne region. Methods - radiospectrometric, atomic-absorbtion, mass-spectrometric, gas-chromatographic and statistical ones. In the samples of women's breast milk the traces of heavy metals, pesticides and radionuclides, in particular strontium-90 and cesium-137, were identified, the concentration of aforesaid components being dependent on region pollution and the longevity of staying in the polluted region before and immediately after the pregnancy. No dioxins were determined in the samples. The total concentration of contaminants in breast milk was shown not to be dangerous for children in the case of breast feeding in the course of the first six months of life.
