It is found that the reform period in 90th - early 2000s is characterized by a lack of fundamental publications on public price policy itself, an increasing number of studies on firm price policy, and applied marketing researches. Despite the adoption of legislative acts in the field of state regulation of prices, the very notion of "price policy" still is not officially defined. The choice of forms and methods of state regulation of prices is determined by the dominant political and ideological paradigm of development. Functions of prices are summarised, and functions of different monetary valuations are defined. It is proved that public price policy in mixed economy should cover all monetary valuations: both prices and economic values. The main methods of state regulation of prices in forestry sector of Ukraine are: prescribing the cost calculation method (direct regulation), giving subsidies for producers of goods and services in forestry, earmarking budget spending (indirect regulation).
