Psychological characteristics and basic differences of identity in small groups as compared with medium and large ones were defined. A number of states of the theory of group identity as intrapsychological component of group psychological fields were proposed: development of a small group identity is in line with the processes of group dynamics and can serve as an indicator of groups' development; role-identity reflects the role structure of a small group and reflexive process of overthinking own roles; trust to the group is the ontogenetic formation, that can determine the peculiarities of group identification processes. Specific features of cognitive and emotional components of group identity, the relationship of gender identity with role position in the student group, participants' gender stereotypes according to sex of training group coach were empirically confirmed.
