The subject of research is the physical and mechanical properties of ballistic helmet constructions. The purpose of the work is development of suggestions for methods of estimation of protective properties of ballistic helmets and development of the draft national (military) standard "Personal protective equipment. Ballistic helmets. General technical requirements and methods for ballistic resistance tests". The main results: determination of materials and elements of constructions of ballistic helmets to ensure the necessary level of protection at minimum weight and cost as well as the proper level of ergonomics; determination of priority directions of creation of ballistic helmets; substantiation of constructions and the complete set of ballistic helmets for different military branches; determination of ways of improvement of technical and ballistic features due to decrease of weight of the helmets; suggestions for methods of estimation of protective properties of ballistic helmets; suggestions to the draft national (military) standard "Personal protective equipment. Ballistic helmets. General technical requirements and methods for ballistic resistance tests". The use of the offered recommendations will allow to decrease the cost and weight of ballistic helmets at the same time preserving the necessary level of protection. The results of the research can be used in design bureaus and research establishments at creation of new or modernization of existent items of ballistic helmets.
