Process and mechanical calculations have been performed to define expected capacity of a steam calciner and necessary redesign of the drive and its subunits. A preliminary feasibility evaluation has been performed to substitute the existing monohydrate drier for a steam calciner, initial data issued for design of a steam calciner plant. This permitted to increase dense soda capacity from 200,000 to 400,000-450,000 tpa at relatively small investment costs, to improve sieve analysis of dense soda, to reduce specific electric power consumption by 5-7 kWh/t, to improve enivironmental condition by reduction of atmospheric pollution.
