Basing on “The Purple Wig” by G.K.Chesterton in the Source and Target Texts, the attempt is provided to prove that archaic symbolism being included into the literary text makes it possible to clarify the way the crime is investigated. Besides, the imperative of symbolism reproduction in the Target text is stated.
