The author aspires to show that the greatest challenge to the basic University course is a mind-boggling diversity of theoretical premises in which a student (even a diligent one) is as likely to get drowned as an inexperienced swimmer in the rough sea. The author gives his own interpretation of the “philological circle” and some other high-profile categories of translatology in the hope of triggering off a constructive discussion around them.
