The aim is to reveal the metaphors that underline conventional expressions including or accompanying the word ‘conflict’ in the English language. It is shown that there is a wide range of cognitive metaphors which govern linguistic expression for the concept CONFLICT, among them orientational, structural and ontological ones can be observed.
