Summary of the chronology of the banking in Ukraine allowed distinguishing three phases of its development, necessity of bank performance management is proved. The author specifically mentioned four conceptual approaches to the content of banking - "functional", "portfolio", "production" and "institutional". Scientific and methodological approaches for banking performance’s assessment are systematized.
